How my office yoga classes reduced stress at Oddbox

26th September 2018

If you follow me on Instagram you’ll know that I absolutely love Oddbox and get so excited about my weekly delivery of wonky fruit and veg! I have also been teaching the wonderful team at Oddbox a weekly office (or in their case, warehouse) class, helping them enjoy some time as a team away from desks, reduce stress and improve their productivity.

Who are Oddbox?

Oddbox are my food waste heroes. They work directly with farmers, taking their wonky and surplus produce (the ones that supermarkets won’t take) and delivering them to doors across London, at a fair price for both the farmers and Oddbox customers.

This is great, as food waste is a huge problem for our planet. According to the United Nation Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), if food waste were a country, it would be the third largest greenhouse gas emitter after China and the United States. Oddbox also point out on their website that “over a third of all the food we produce gets wasted before it’s even left the farm”.

Living Green Office Yoga classes with Oddbox

Before I begin teaching yoga classes within any business, I firstly find out exactly what they’d like to get from them so that I can tailor each class for their specific needs. From Emilie, Oddbox’s co-founder I learnt that they wanted classes to focus on stress and energy management as they’re a busy team with a lot on their plate, and that two members of the team struggle with back pain.

Each week I plan a class that includes both energising and stress relieving techniques, giving the team a chance to fully relax and recharge. Every class also focuses on a different area in the body which holds tension from office work, using yoga postures to release tightness whilst also gently stretching and strengthening their cores and spine, to build support in their backs.

Building trust and support in the team – quite literally!

What Oddbox say about my classes

“Lucy is an amazing yoga teacher, she’s gentle, kind and very organised. Lucy spent some time in advance of the classes to understand expectations and what she should focus on, and tailored each class to a specific need.

We thoroughly enjoy the classes and are looking forward to the class every week. It is an amazing break in our busy days and also a great way to create more cohesion within the team.

I would highly recommend her classes and truly believe it helps with productivity and team culture.”

Emilie Vanpoperinghe, Co-Founder

Yoga has so much it can offer businesses to help reduce some of the strains that office work can cause staff, both mentally and physically, and I truly enjoy working with teams like Oddbox who are doing all they can to help the planet.
