Finding the right eco-friendly yoga mats for your office classes

Finding the right eco-friendly yoga mats for your office classes

6th March 2019

If you’re organising yoga classes for your office and wondering what to do about yoga mats, then this guide is for you.

As a yoga teacher who is passionate about helping people and businesses reduce their impact on the planet, I’m always being asked to recommend eco-friendly yoga mats. With this in mind, I’ve created a guide comparing the best eco-friendly mats on the market, so that you can easily find the right type for your office.

The most sustainable option

Undoubtedly the most sustainable option for any business offering yoga classes is to ask your employees attending classes to bring their own yoga mats into work with them. This means that mats already in existence are being put to good use, reducing unnecessary consumption and waste.

However, not everyone owns a yoga mat. This may result in someone who would really like to attend the classes, and who would benefit a lot from them, missing out.

In this case I recommend encouraging your employees to bring along their own mats where possible, but to also provide a number of mats for those who do not have their own.

The question of price

As with most things, more sustainable and environmentally friendly options tend to come with a higher price tag, and I am aware that a lot of the mats on this page aren’t cheap. It’s great if we’re able to support the brands who provide more planet friendly options, but I also understand that not everyone or every business can afford to spend this much.

I’ve therefore included a really good, affordable yoga mat in the comparison table below (the Yogamatters Sticky Yoga Mat) which isn’t as eco-friendly but a solid option for those on a smaller budget. PVC can be recycled at the end of its life, but needs to be taken to a specialist recycling center.

And for the businesses who I work with, I can save you money on the majority of the eco-friendly mats below, by purchasing these on your behalf using my trade discount. Just see the brackets in the “Price” row for discount details, and if you’d like to find out more about this then please get in touch.

I’m also very happy to have partnered up with DIYogi to offer my readers 10% off their yoga mats (see the below table for all the mat details) using the code LIVING10.

There are many yoga mats on the market, which makes finding a mat which is grippy, has good cushioning and great eco credentials a big task! But I’ve done all the research, reading 100s of reviews and testing mats out myself where I can, to make this decision as simple as possible for you.

I’ve also focused on grip and thickness of the mats, as they play a big role in how focused and comfortable your employees will feel whilst practicing yoga, making sure they get the maximum benefits from your classes.
